Russia Prepares to Construct the 1st Floating Nuclear Power Station
The first vice premier of Russia, Ivanov, said on April 9 that Russia has begun to prepare constructing the 1st floating nuclear power station on water in Russia, scheduled to be put into operation before 2010.
 
On April 9, Ivanov reported to the president Putin that the 1st floating nuclear power station on water in Russia will provide power for the Northern Russia short of energy and power supply. This kind of new-style floating nuclear power station can suit for the atrocious weather in arctic pole and far east areas etc., Russia plans to construct total 7 similar nuclear power stations. Ivanov said, some countries has been interested in it also are willing to cooperate with Russia on the construction.
 
On June 2006, Russia Atomic Energy Company signed contract with Russia North Mechanical Manufacturing Plant, planning to construct a floating nuclear power station supported by lighter, which has two atomic reactors also the safety protective system and thermal distribution system. Its total value is about 0.35 billion, the estimated lifetime is 40 years.
